What Is the Strengthen Alabama Homes Grant?
The SAH program, administered by the Alabama Department of Insurance, aims to strengthen homes against storm damage by assisting homeowners in upgrading to the FORTIFIED™ standard. This standard includes enhancements like reinforced roof decks, sealed seams, and improved attachment methods, all designed to withstand high winds and heavy rain.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for the SAH grant:
Primary Residence: Your home must be your primary residence located in Alabama.
Insurance: You must have an active homeowners insurance policy. If your home is in a designated flood zone, flood insurance is also required.
Evaluation: Obtain a home evaluation from a Certified FORTIFIED™ Evaluator.
Documentation: Provide necessary documents, including income verification and insurance declarations.
Contractor: Use a contractor approved by the SAH program for the roof upgrade.
Note: The grant covers up to $10,000 of the upgrade cost. Any additional expenses are the homeowner’s responsibility.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted quarterly on a first-come, first-served basis. For 2025, the application dates are:
Mobile County: January 6, April 1, July 7
Baldwin County: January 8, April 3, July 9
