OUR STORY
We Built Bowab Because Alabama Homeowners Deserved Better
It Starts With Watching People Get Taken Advantage Of
When Ryan Bowab founded Bowab Fortified Roofing in September 2022, he wasn't trying to build the biggest roofing company on the Gulf Coast. He was trying to fix something he'd watched play out too many times: Alabama homeowners being sold on cheap materials, rushed installs, and high-pressure tactics by contractors who wouldn't be around when problems showed up a year later.
The roofing industry — especially in storm-prone coastal markets — attracts a certain kind of operator. They follow the damage, bid fast, disappear faster. Homeowners, often dealing with the stress of a recent storm or an unexpected insurance claim, are in no position to evaluate who's telling them the truth and who's just telling them what they need to hear to sign.
Bowab was built as a direct response to that pattern. Not a marketing position — a genuine operating philosophy that shapes every decision, from which shingles go on a roof to how a sales conversation is conducted.
Why FORTIFIED — and Why It Had to Be the Foundation
When Ryan looked at what Alabama homeowners actually needed, the answer was clear: most of the Gulf Coast's housing stock was underbuilt for the weather it regularly faces. Hurricanes, tropical systems, and severe thunderstorms aren't rare events here — they're the baseline. And yet most roofs were being installed to minimum standard, not to the standard the climate actually demands.
The IBHS FORTIFIED program existed to change that. It's not a marketing label — it's an engineering standard, developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, that specifies exactly how a roof needs to be constructed to withstand the wind and weather events common to this region. Sealed roof deck. Ring-shank nails. Proper flashing. The details that make the difference when a real storm arrives.
Ryan didn't add FORTIFIED to a service menu. He built the company around it. It's the reason he pursued Atlas Platinum Contractor certification — the highest tier Atlas awards — rather than simply using whatever shingle was easiest to source. And it's the reason he chose to work inside the Strengthen Alabama Homes program, which makes the upgrade accessible to homeowners who might not otherwise be able to afford it.
Serving the Gulf Coast — and Beyond
From Lillian across the entire Mobile and Baldwin County corridor, Ryan built Bowab with a clear geographic mission: to be the most trusted FORTIFIED roofing contractor on the Alabama Gulf Coast. That means showing up with the same standard of work, the same materials, and the same honest conversation about what every home actually needs — whether it's a beachfront property on the coast or a family home in Saraland.
The Gulf Coast's proximity to hurricane risk and the SAH grant program makes FORTIFIED not just a smart upgrade but an essential one. Ryan saw that gap early — between what standard roofing delivers and what homes in this region need to be genuinely protected — and built the company to close it.
"We hear your stories of roofers with high-pressure sales and shady business practices. We are not that company. Our goal is to meet the highest quality roofing standard at the best price."

A confusing grant process that left homeowners behindThe SAH program is legitimate and valuable — but the application, bid process, and documentation requirements trip up the homeowners who need it most.
